PETAPETA Level 3 Walkthrough

Level 3 is where many players hit their first difficulty wall. PETAPETA circles back to your last known position more aggressively, and you must complete the Room with the Evil — a staring puzzle that reveals your safe code — before the usual safe-and-box exorcism loop. Rushing the Evil Room is the fastest way to die; patience and wardrobe timing matter more than sprint speed.

Level 3 Objective Chain

Expect a sequence similar to:

  • Locate and complete the Room with the Evil mini-event.
  • Obtain the safe code revealed through that sequence.
  • Open the dial safe and retrieve the key or critical item inside.
  • Find and open the box for the ofuda.
  • Perform hallway exorcism under heavier patrol pressure.

Level 3 retains Level 2's multi-floor hotel layout but adds psychological horror gating — you cannot skip the Evil Room and still progress.

Finding the Evil Room

The Evil Room has recognizable tells:

  • Blue pillow on scattered furniture.
  • Black hand marks streaking walls like something crawled through.
  • Disordered tatami and props suggesting a struggle.

Enter cautiously. The room is not a standard loot space — interacting with the wrong focal point without preparation triggers failed puzzle states or wastes time during hunts. Mark the door externally if you find it early but are not ready to commit.

Solving the Evil Room Puzzle

Follow the hand marks to a hole in the wall. Approach and stare into the opening at the swinging figure holding paper. This is intentional — look away too early and the code will not register.

Sequence outline:

  • Track hand marks clockwise or counterclockwise until you find the breach point.
  • Hold gaze on the figure until the safe code populates your HUD — audio cues often signal success.
  • Some runs require briefly looking back at the room center after the stare; if HUD stays empty, re-approach the hole without sprinting (sprint can cancel interactions).

Once the code appears, leave the Evil Room and treat the rest like Level 2: locate the safe room, align dials, collect key, find box. See our Find Safe Code guide for Evil Room troubleshooting.

Survival Under Circle-Back Patrols

Level 3's hunt AI returns to your last seen area multiple times before despawning. Wardrobes near the Evil Room and safe are high value — PETAPETA may re-check those zones twice.

Advanced tactics:

  • Complete the Evil Room during calm windows at floor start if possible.
  • Do not hide prematurely; false hides waste time while objectives remain incomplete.
  • Party poppers from the shop freeze PETAPETA briefly — excellent for dial safe entry if a hunt triggers mid-puzzle.
  • After ofuda placement, expect longer bait times; stay behind the charm until the spirit pathing completes.

Clearing Level 3 unlocks Level 4's doll collection arc — fundamentally different puzzle DNA.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Room with the Evil?
A special guest room with blue pillow, black hand marks, and a wall hole. Staring at the figure inside reveals your Level 3 safe code on the HUD.
Why does PETAPETA keep coming back on Level 3?
Level 3 introduces circle-back patrol logic. The spirit revisits recent player areas before ending a hunt phase.
Can I get the safe code without the Evil Room?
No on standard Level 3. The stare sequence is the intended code source for this floor.
Is Level 3 harder than Level 2?
Yes — faster re-patrols, mandatory horror puzzle, and tighter timing on safe entry during hunts.
