PETAPETA Level 2 Walkthrough

Level 2 introduces the hotel's vertical layout — staircases to upper and lower guest floors — plus the first true puzzle gate: a dial safe whose combination appears on corner papers scattered through rooms. Safe codes are random every run and copy automatically to your HUD when found. Master looking upward in doorways and this floor becomes a reliable Zeni farm.

New Mechanics on Level 2

Beyond Level 1's key-and-box loop, Level 2 adds:

  • Safe code papers — Posted high in room corners; codes copy to your HUD left-side display.
  • Dial safes — A wide open room contains a floor safe with rotating symbol arrows.
  • Multi-floor navigation — Box and key spawns can sit upstairs or downstairs.

Objectives typically read: find the code paper, open the safe (often containing the key), find the box, open it, place ofuda. Exact wording can vary slightly with updates, but the safe-before-box structure is consistent.

Finding the Safe Code Paper

The most common mistake on Level 2 is searching drawers and floors while ignoring the ceiling line. Codes hang in upper corners of guest rooms — look up immediately when entering any new chamber.

When your crosshair nears the paper, the game auto-copies digits or symbols to your HUD. You do not need to manually write them unless you want backup notes in our Safe Code Helper tool.

Search priority for speedruns:

  • Rooms adjacent to the main staircase — high traffic but often contains the paper early.
  • Large open rooms with minimal furniture — corners are unobstructed.
  • Repeat passes on floors you rushed through; only one paper is required, but spawns are random.

Spirit bells from the shop ring when near key items; they are optional but strong for learning spawn logic without memorizing fake code lists online.

Opening the Dial Safe

Locate the wide open room housing the floor safe — usually a tatami chamber with few obstructions and the safe visible near a wall. Approach the dial and use arrow buttons to match symbols left to right exactly as shown on your HUD.

Common failure points:

  • Reversing symbol order — HUD order is canonical; mirroring fails silently until you reset dials.
  • Partial matches — all positions must align before E opens the safe.
  • Panicking during hunts — enter the safe when PETAPETA is despawned or after hiding; dials require focus.

Inside you typically find the key for the level box, though some patch versions spawn the key elsewhere and use the safe for alternate items. Always grab everything inside before leaving.

Box Location, Stairs, and Exorcism

With key in hand, search both floors for the locked box room. Level 2 box rooms lack Level 1's upside-down table tell — rely on opening doors along both stair branches until the HUD marks proximity.

Staircase tips:

  • Identify which floor you found the safe on; box often spawns on the opposite floor to force full exploration.
  • Mark confusing intersections with spray paint if you purchased it — hotel symmetry is disorienting.
  • Keep a wardrobe path in mind before opening the box; ofuda pickup triggers hunts like Level 1.

Exorcise identical to Level 1: hallway placement, stand behind ofuda, bait PETAPETA across. Level 2 patrols last slightly longer, so wait for full calm before stepping out of wardrobes post-placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Level 2 safe code?
On a paper in an upper corner of a guest room. Look up when entering rooms; the code copies to your HUD automatically when found.
Can the Level 2 safe code be shared online?
No. Codes randomize every run. Online lists are outdated or fake. Use search priority instead of memorized numbers.
Which floor has the box on Level 2?
Either upper or lower floor — randomized. Search both after opening the safe.
What if my HUD code does not open the safe?
Verify left-to-right symbol order on all dial positions. If still failing, ensure you found the correct paper for this run — some players mistake decorative posters for code papers.
