How Cursed Shards Work
Shards are permanent currency earned each School of Nightmares run:
- Spawn in nearly every classroom — sweep both floors before gate escape.
- Lobby shards appear randomly — always collect before starting a run.
- Each player carries one key at a time; shard looting continues while key hunting.
- Robux shop sells shard bundles — optional accelerator, not required.
Shards persist across sessions unlike hotel Zeni banked only at level completion.
Recommended Skill Tree Order
- Shard capacity — Raise cap before expensive nodes so runs don't overflow earnings.
- Stamina buffs — Courtyard crossings and Hard mode chases demand sprint headroom.
- Auto-loot shards — Quality-of-life once capacity is comfortable.
- Stun abilities — After economy nodes; enables safer key handoffs in teams.
- Hard mode unlock (3,000 Shards) — Host when ready for +50% earnings.
- Super Hard mode (3,000 Shards) — Doubles payouts; fastest PETAPETA.
Hard vs Super Hard Hosting
Difficulty is chosen when hosting — not mid-run:
- Normal — Baseline shard count (example: 150 earned → 150 banked).
- Hard — Faster PETAPETA; +50% shards (150 → 225).
- Super Hard — Maximum danger; 2× shards (150 → 300).
Farm Normal until stamina and stun nodes feel comfortable — Hard without upgrades frustrates solo players.
Summer Festival 2026
Omochi Studio launched a Summer Festival event in School of Nightmares on July 3, 2026 — limited cosmetics and lobby banners separate from main hotel July 1 story patch. Event modifiers may tweak shard bonuses or visual fog; screenshot Roblox description dates when planning clan sessions.
Main PETAPETA hotel did not receive a parallel Summer Festival mode as of July 2026 — verify Events page before assuming cross-mode rewards.
